Vancouver Insurance Defence Lawyer

Richard Fister graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 1983.  After articling at a major insurance defence firm, he was called to the BC bar in 1984.  For the next five years Richard carried on a general litigation practice in New Westminster, handling matters in estate, health, personal injury, and construction law and appearing before all levels of court in British Columbia.

Richard then practised for 14 years in the Corporate Law Department of the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia, rising to the position of General Counsel.  During his time with ICBC Richard was exposed to a wide range of ICBC’s commercial and litigation activities and gained considerable expertise.  Richard returned to private practice in 2005 and has focussed his practice on insurance defence litigation involving significant claims, both tort and Part 7, and coverage issues.  For the past five years Richard has been the author of the chapter on private and optional automobile insurance for the British Columbia Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Practice Manual.  Richard joined Meridian Law Group in January, 2014.

In his time away from the office Richard enjoys constructing all things large and small, from simpler carpentry and cabinet making to full scale home renovations.  Richard also maintains (or tries to) an older 30′ sailboat, which he has been known to take out when the weather is spectacularly good.
