Mercedes Thurber earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with a focus on International Relations, at the University of Victoria in 2011. She went on to obtain a Juris Doctor at the University of Sydney in 2014. After competing her legal training requirements in Sydney, Mercedes was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in New South Wales in 2015.
Mercedes then returned to Canada and articled at a firm specializing in personal injury and estate litigation. She was called to the bar in British Columbia in 2017. Mercedes became an associate of Swadden & Company in 2018 and practises insurance and personal injury law.
Mercedes has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and has a keen interest in travelling and experiencing other cultures. In her spare time Mercedes enjoys hiking, walking her dog on the seawall, and exploring new craft breweries in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.
