Mercedes Thurber obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with a focus on International Relations, at the University of Victoria in 2011. She went on to obtain a Juris Doctor at the University of Sydney in 2014. After competing her legal training requirements in Sydney, Mercedes was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in New South Wales, Australia in 2015.

Mercedes returned to Canada and articled at a firm specializing in personal injury and estate litigation. She was called to the Bar in British Columbia in 2017. Mercedes became an associate of Meridian Law Group in 2018 and practices insurance and personal injury law.

Mercedes has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity building houses in Vietnam and Fiji. She loves to travel and experience other cultures. In her spare time Mercedes enjoys spending time with her husband and young daughter, walking the Seawall with her miniature Goldendoodle, cooking, and exploring new craft breweries in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.
