Carla graduated from Simon Fraser University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and English.  She received a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Victoria in 1991 and was called to the Bar in British Columbia in 1992.   Carla then clerked with the Tax Court of Canada in Ottawa before taking up practice in BC.  She has experience in many areas of litigation, including estate litigation, insurance litigation, personal injury claims, and family litigation, and has appeared before all levels of court in BC.  Carla is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and has served as the chair of the Automobile Insurance Committee and as a member of the Court Services Committee, the Advisory Committee to the Judicial Council, and the Awards Committee.  Carla has presented on expert evidence at the BC Paralegals’ Association annual boot camp and at the Vancouver Community College paralegal accreditation program.  Carla joined Swadden & Company in April, 2014.

In addition to her legally related volunteer work, Carla has served as a director of the MSA Museum Society, an organization that manages the Trethewey House heritage site in Abbotsford.
